Types of Breedings Available

OUR OBJECTIVES ARE:

1) To provide you with high quality genetically consistent sires to improve both type and fleece traits in your alpaca herd.

2) To inform, guide and support you in your quest for knowledge about breeding and genetics to insure improvement in each generation.

3) To provide these services at a reasonable price.

Sire Power Alpacas is introducing a new schedule for breeding fees that will reflect the genetic value of each stud as well as the amount of time and responsibility required on our part to get your females pregnant.   Check out the Sires Available page for each studs info and pricing.

Types of Breedings Available BY Sire Power:

1) Mobile Mating  We will bring the selected herd sire to your farm, (within 200 miles - 320 kilometers of our farm) complete the service and then take the sire home. Spit-offs and pregnancy checks are your responsibility.  We offer follow up advice and support until your dam has a happy, healthy, week old cria as a result of this service.

Advantages of mobile mating:

1) You get time to bond with the new cria.  One of the things that alpaca producers don't like about conventional alpaca breeding programs is that when you send your female out to be bred, her cria must go with her and you lose all those "cute days" with the cria. With mobile mating your female and cria stay at home.

Isn't this cute!

2) The stress of travelling and unfamiliar surroundings often lead to a lower conception rate.

Keep your dams at home where they feel safe and secure.

3) Mobile mating limits the number of outside animals that your herd comes into contact with.  This is especially important now that BVD is a concern.

4) Superior genetics are available without the cost of owning a superior sire. This is especially true for smaller herds. Remember that owning an animal includes more than the purchase price. It includes feed, vet, shearing, nail trimming, labour, insurance, housing and associated costs, as well as the risks involved in ownership.

5) When we are contracted for a breeding you also get over 30 years of expertise in genetics and reproduction.

2) Drive-By Breedings -  The herd owner brings the female to Sire Power Alpacas for the breeding.  After the breeding, the herd owner takes their female home with them.  The female isn't introduced to as many stresses as she would be for an On Farm Breeding. For more info on this type of breeding click here to read an article on Drive-By Breedings.

3) On Farm Matings are available to all female alpacas. Residency is usually about sixty days to be sure the female is settled. Service fees include boarding and TLC.
